Renew 71 is the inaugural 71st Advisory Committee event announcing the formation of the committee and its goal to revitalize the 71st Street Corridor. The event will showcase the 2017 Architecture Biennial for which the Advisory Committee submitted a conceptual rendering of the 71st St Corridor. The event will also serve as an opportunity to display community businesses, organizations and the diversity of the South Shore Community. This event was sponsored by SSA #42

The South Shore Summer Festival

Thank you to everyone who attended the South Shore Summer Festival on Sunday, August 20th.   This year’s event was an overwhelming success.  With close to 2,000 attendees the residents of South Shore celebrated the summer season coming to a close.  There were performances by R&B Group Levert II and the Spectacular Funk Band Cameo!  Larry Blackman and his band had the crowd on their feet as they sang along to famous hits like Candy and Why Have I Lost You.   And no South Shore event would be complete without a performance by the South Shore Drill Team.  These young men and women were a definite crowd pleaser.

The Summer Festival is held every August at the South Shore Cultural Center.  It’s a day dedicated to community engagement, family fun and an opportunity for local vendors to showcase their products and attract new customers.

Special Service Area #42 which is a result of the efforts of 5th Ward Alderman Leslie A. Hairston and the South Shore Chamber Economic Development, Inc. sponsors this Annual event.

12 Days of Christmas Pop-Up

Spreading Joy and Building Business

Thanks to 5th Ward Alderman Leslie A. Hairston and Special Service Area #42, the South Shore community hosted a 6-week event where local vendors, artists and artisans came together to sell and showcase their one-of-a-kind products and apparel. Residents and guests were invited into the community to shop local for the holidays and participate in an annual toy drive to help children in need. This economic development initiative was not only charming and fun, but the result of a community that works.
